Capitalise on the Teeth Whitening Boom
Are you noticing more interest in teeth whitening procedures? A boom is being fuelled by people spending more time looking in the mirror, according to a report by The Telegraph. Self-reflection during the UK COVID lockdown period has lead to a reported increase in enquiries about teeth whitening and other cosmetic procedures such as fitting for braces and veneers.
Dental practices can anticipate even greater demand as the latest figures show no signs of treatments slowing down. Demand for teeth whitening will see a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of over 4% between 2019 and 2025.
Whitening treatments are a particularly good option for practices to offer right now with the regulations around AGPs leading to restrictions on patient numbers and corresponding income. With practices typically charging anywhere between £200 and £500 for a course of take-home tooth whitening and a patient pack of Big White Smile currently available from Kent Express for just £26, it's clear that offering whitening treatments can significantly add to your practice revenue.
It's essential that dentists use the right product for the right patient, based on expected compliance, product usability and results. Our dedicated account managers are able to advise on the best whitening products for your practice. Here's a selection of our current range:
Big White Smile
Big White Smile is a premium quality take-home whitening gel, designed to deliver excellent whitening results with noticeable effects after just a few days at an extremely competitive price for the dentist. It's available in three formulations: 6% Hydrogen Peroxide, 10% Carbamide Peroxide and 16% Carbamide Peroxide, with 3ml x 4 syringes in each pack.
All Big White Smile gels contain desensitisers and with optimum water content to hydrate the teeth during treatment and avoid sensitivity. Big White Smile gel is intended for use with a custom designed application tray - still seen as the most controlled and effective way to whiten teeth.
The system is designed such that the dentist provides the first treatment, then the patient takes the remaining treatments away to complete at home. The system offers a great opportunity for repeat revenue.
“Every single patient has said how happy they are with the result of [Big White Smile] whitening gel."

Ultradent Opalescence
Again designed for use with custom take-home whitening trays, Opalescence PF offers many options for patients. The sticky, viscous formula helps keep the gel and tray in place during treatment. With five concentrations and three flavours, patients can completely customise their whitening experience. Opalescence contains potassium nitrate and fluoride and is formulated to prevent dehydration and shade relapse. Five concentrations are available for treatment flexibility, with wear times from 15 minutes to overnight. It's available in three flavours: mint, melon and regular. Suitable for day or night wear, the gel won’t migrate to soft tissues, helping to reduce sensitivity.
SDI Pola range
Poladay and Polanight are high viscosity, pH-neutral tooth whitening gels to ensure the greatest patient comfort in a take home kit. The unique blend of soothers, conditioners and high water content assist in reducing sensitivity. Polaluminate is a quick and easy "brush on and go" professional tooth whitening treatment with 6% hydrogen peroxide. Applied for only 30 minutes twice a day, there are over 60 applications in the 5.5mL tube.
Polaoffice is SDI's single use in-office system. Minimal chair time is required; whiter teeth are achieved in just 30 minutes. Polaoffice’s unique desensitising properties inhibit patient post-operative sensitivity. Polaoffice uses a 35% hydrogen peroxide formula to give you and your patients quick and efficient results without excessive time wasted chairside.
Dentsply Illuminé
Illuminé is a tray-based whitening system. It has been designed for patients to have the first treatment applied by a dental practitioner and thereafter apply in the comfort of their own home, over the course of approximately two weeks. A 6-9 shade change is possible using Illuminé, offering your patients predictability and performance. In addition, the product is supplied in an attractive, consumer-friendly washbag with simple, step-by-step application instructions. Available in a 10% Carbamide Peroxide or 15% Carbamide Peroxide with Fluoride formulation.
The Starter Kits consist of a Cosmetic Bag, Syringe 3ml x 3, Applicator Tips x 3, Mouthguard Box, Instruction Leaflet and Step-by-Step Illustrated Technique Guide. The Refill Kits contain 5 packs of 2 x 3ml syringes.
