What's Wrong with Chlorhexidine Mouthwash?
Dental mouthwashes have been around for decades, and you wouldn’t necessarily think this was an area for innovation. However, whilst there’s nothing wrong with the chlorhexidine, alcohol or peroxide based mouthwashes that we’ve been using for years, they do come with a number of drawbacks:
- Chlorhexidine, alcohol and peroxide can cause irritation or allergic reaction
- Chlorhexidine can stain teeth and the tongue
- Both chlorhexidine and alcohol are subject to antimicrobial resistance
- These traditional ingredients do nothing to promote cell regeneration
What’s in Clinisept+?
Clinisept+ mouthwash is different. Instead of alcohol, chlorhexidine or harsh chemicals it contains a next generation high purity hypochlorous solution, which employs a gentle oxidising method of action to deliver high levels of cleansing antimicrobial protection, but without causing irritation or oral sensitisation.
Clinisept+ is non-toxic, pH neutral, non-irritant to teeth or gums, is hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, and causes no harm to dental enamel or staining.
Designed specifically for intra-oral use, Clinisept+ provides superior levels of microbial control and surpasses the requirements of EN1040, EN1276 and EN14476.
Why haven’t hypochlorous mouthwashes been used before?
In the past, hypochlorous products have been made by electrolysis. This results in a low purity solution with a high hypochlorite content. Clinisept+ technology is produced using a unique process which coverts sodium hypochlorite into more than 90% pure hypochlorous to ensure purity, stability, efficacy and safety.
How can Clinisept+ be used?
Clinisept+ mouthwash can be used in surgery and by patients at home.
- In surgery use as a pre and post treatment rinse to provide the optimum protection against complications
- At home, aid recovery and protect against post implant inflammation.
- It is also suitable for use as a daily mouthwash to improve general oral hygiene.
- Clinisept+ Mouthwash is also suitable for use by those who have sensitive or sore oral tissue as it provides the ideal conditions for natural healing to occur.
