Reawaken Your Taste Buds and Boost Your Health
Kent Express have found a wonderful way the WHOLE dental team can get involved in helping our patients becoming healthier and kicking sugar!
As dental care professionals we are privileged to see the damage sugar does to our bodies very early on and start to intervene in our patient’s diets. The dental community can start educating our patients BEFORE they end up obese, perhaps with Type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Most people see their dental teams more often than their doctor so this gives us a unique opportunity to help.
Research has found that after just six days of low sugar your palate will recalibrate, and you will start to notice how sweet normal food and drink tastes. Dentist James Goolnik has teamed up with nutritionist Jenny Philips and professional chef Giancarlo Caldesi to produce a cookbook called ‘Kick Sugar’ to help people reduce the sugar in their diet permanently. This not just a recipe book, it is a journey to reawakening your taste buds! All profits go to the Rewards Project. This charity is a collaboration of medical and scientific experts, driven to improve our health and wellbeing by transforming how we use sugar-based foods and drinks to reward good behaviour and performance.
There is a 14-day sugar challenge that you as a team can do and encourage your patients to join. Plus a supportive a Facebook community and free downloads for the entire dental team to get involved. These include documents you can print out such as a sugar challenge pledge sheet which the whole team signs, a questionnaire, meditations and even a food diary if anyone wants to keep a more detailed track of what they're eating.
