What is BioMin?
BioMin is an innovative bioactive glass technology developed by Professor Robert Hill and his team at Queen Mary University of London.
It is a result of decades of research and product formulation focused on developing bioactive materials to help reduce and provide relief from tooth sensitivity and dentine hypersensitivity, and to strengthen and protect the tooth enamel.
BioMin technology has been used in toothpaste since 2017 and is being increasingly used in a variety of other dental materials, including fluoride varnish.
The combination of BioMin bioactive glass technology with the well-established efficiency of VOCO Profluorid Varnish is intended to revolutionise fluoride varnish applications with a new formula that enhances remineralisation and provides long-lasting desensitisation.
Hardens weakened enamel
The invisible and flavourless bioglass is already used with success in other prophylaxis products, such as toothpaste. However, it is being used in a fluoride varnish for the first time.
BioMin's bioglass dissolves in the presence of saliva, releases calcium and phosphate ions and thus supports the remineralisation of the tooth. In combination with the fluoride from the varnish, crystalline structures form on the tooth surface, which significantly harden, for example, acid-weakened enamel.
VOCO Profluorid Varnish + BioMin thus offers patients double protection: in addition to the crystalline protective layer described above, the properties of VOCO Profluorid Varnish + BioMin also include comprehensive and long-lasting desensitisation of sensitive teeth, thanks to the fluoride it contains.
